Close your eyes, listen to the song. Come back and then read what I have to say.
Fell in love with Papon’s voice yet? 🙂
I first heard of Papon when my friend Mitra (no pun intended) heard him at a concert (presumably with his band East India Company) in Bangalore, around 2-3 years back and was raving about him. I had no clue who he was. Then I heard this collaboration (you can skip ahead to the song, it begins at 33.02) he did with Rabbi Shergill for Dewarists. And then Jiyein Kyun from Dum Maaro Dum. Then Kaun Mera from Special 26. And then Kyon. Surprisingly, that’s not the end. Watch him perform the song on Indian Idol Junior with Anjana in the opening episode. He actually smiles and moves and sways while singing! 😀
The music for Barfi! by Pritam was a surprise. It reiterates my belief that while he is not mass producing songs, he can come with gems like Life in a Metro… and Barfi!. What adds to Kyon, or to the rest of Barfi!’s album is the way the music shapes around the movie. Obviously the lyrics add to it. Neelesh Misra may be famous for his radio show but he’s not new to famous songs. Jaadoo Hain Nasha Hain, Bepanah Pyar Hain, Woh Lamhe are all his songs.
After the Indian Idol performance, Vidya Balan says that Papon’s voice has “hope” watch it here and tell me if you agree, I do!
